4D3N Hongkong - Macau Itinerary and Expenses

Hi Everyone!

It's been 6 months since our Hongkong - Macau Trip but I can still recall every detail of it! Here's the itinerary for our 4D3N stay in these beautiful regions:

As you can see, we did a lot of shopping and walking around Hongkong and Macau. This is primarily because I traveled with my Mom and Aunties who are more into those activities than spending entire day in a theme park. But since Hongkong Disneyland is my dream place-to-be and they, too, are Disney fanatics like me, they agreed to allot one whole day in this magical place -- still with a little bit of shopping, of course! :)

Meanwhile, below is our total expenses (per head basis) for the entire trip:

Note that we went to Hongkong - Macau in November and bulk of our money went to pasalubong and Christmas gift shopping. It is a bit costly to travel in Hongkong since most of its attractions are not for free. If you are traveling with kids, I highly recommend you to just stay in Hongkong and allot separate days in Disneyland and Ocean Park Adventure. However, if you are mostly adults in the group but still young at heart (like us!) just visit Hongkong Disneyland and other attractions such as Ngong Ping Village and Victoria Peak.

Here are some tips to save money when traveling in Hongkong - Macau:

1. Attractions -  We were able to get discounted tickets for the tours and Macau Ferry c/o our hotel, Golden Crown Guesthouse. Check with your hotel first if they offer discounted tickets before buying online/on-site. I came across also to http://hotelinhongkong.net/ which offers cheaper Hongkong Disneyland vouchers. Plus, these are accepted in Disneyland's AutoMagic Tickets Tickets Redemption Machine which means you no longer have to fall in line to get your Disneyland tickets. How cool is that? :)

2. Food - Eat in their night markets. Hongkong is famous for its good food so you can never go wrong with its local and unique delicacies. Since my travel companions were not comfortable eating in the streets and quite afraid to try foods in a foreign country, they opted to just order meals from fastfood chains like McDonald's and KFC which left me quite disappointed since one of my travel goals is to eat like a local in my chosen travel destination. Anyway, will be going back to Hongkong and Macau early next year and this time I will not miss the opportunity to satisfy the inner foodie in me!

3. Airfare - Cebu Pacific and Air Asia offers cheap flights to and from Hongkong/Macau on certain months of the year. Just wait for their seat sale and immediately book your flight when you find a good deal in their site! If you plan to travel on both regions, you can book your arrival in, say, Hongkong then your departure flight from Macau to minimize your cost on ferry. You can also save money by traveling light. It costs one person almost an additional Php 1,000 just for prepaid baggage and it's quite a waste if you will not be able to maximize the weight allotted to you.

5. Transportation - Always have loose change! Most buses in Hongkong/Macau only have drivers inside and you have to put exact amount of cash when alighting this mode of public transportation. When you do not have coins with you, you will be forced to pay more than what's required. Another way to control and monitor your transportation expenses is by getting an Octopus Card when you arrive in Hongkong, you can use this on buses and trains and even on some of its local stores.

6. Research - It's always best to make some time for research before traveling to your destination. Familiarize yourself with the places worth-visiting; restaurants which excellent and cheap food; and ways on how to commute from one location to another with ease.

Hope you find this post helpful for your next trip to Hongkong - Macau! Please watch out for my next blogs highlighting the different parts of our trip!
